About the event

Join us for an Amazing Race Learning Experience!

Your team will travel along Route 66 and compete in 'detours,' 'roadblocks,' and 'speed bumps' from Chicago to the Santa Monica Pier.

Some of the activities will be individual challenges and in others you will complete as a team.

All of the challenges are designed to teach about the state where the challenge takes place.

Students do not need to be able to read.  An adult can help with reading instructions, but they must be old enough to try and complete activities independently.  

This is a competition.  Students will be expected to follow the race rules and instructions.  Teams will be awarded prizes based on the time it takes their team to complete all the activities successfully.

Each team needs to have an adult to participate with them. This is not a drop off event and the activities are design for adult participation. Please use your discretion in registering young children.  We are not giving an age requirement as each parent knows their own child, but know that it will be a full afternoon with a lot of activities and stimulation. Please consider if your young children will be able to make it through the entire learning experience. All children need to be registered as a student, including toddlers.  Families with younger children are encouraged to participate in Heat #3 where there is less time pressure and can complete as many or few activities as they choose. (More info below about the different heats).

Families can bring their own lunch, there will be a "lunch stop" along the route. We are also providing two different meal options.  You can purchase a meal ticket for homemade chili and cornbread or you can order a Jersey Mike's sub that will be delivered to the church at lunch time.  Both meal options include fruit, veggies, and a drink.  You can choose which meal option you prefer when you register.  Each student can select their own meal option.

We will have three starting times for teams.  Please select which works best for you:

Heat #1 is for four person teams and will start promptly at 10:00AM. Each team in the first heat must have three students and one adult.  We encourage you to invite friends if you need to complete a team in order to compete in the first heat.  

Heat #2 is for one adult plus one student teams.  Heat #2 will begin at 10:30AM. This is a great option for families who want to invite Grandma or Grandpa to join their student for the race. Every team in the 2nd heat with be 2 person teams. 

Both Heat #1 and #2 will be competing for prizes.

Heat #3 is an option for families who would love to engage with this unique learning experience, but don't want to compete.  Heat #3 will begin at noon. If you are participating in this heat, you are welcome to order lunch.  We encourage you to come early for lunch so you will be ready to start at noon and not need to stop for lunch. Lunch will be available starting at 11:00AM. Teams participating in this heat can be any size.  If you have more that 3 students on your team, be sure they are all listed in the additional space on your registration form.

Each team will recieve one Arrow Kids Route 66 Handbook.  If you want to order extra handbooks for each participant, you can order extras when you register.

  • Team Registration- Heat #1

    This is your registration for a 4 person team. 1 adult and 3 students. Heat #1 will begin at 10:00am and all teams in the first heat must be 4 person teams.

    This is your registration for a 2 person team. 1 adult and 1 student. Heat #2 will begin at 10:30am and all teams in the second heat must be 2 person teams.

  • Team Registration- Heat #3

    This is your registration for a non-competitive team of any size. Heat #3 will begin at noon. This team will not be eligible for prizes. This registration is best for families who would like to learn from the Route 66 stations but not be pressured to complete all the stations. Because of the limited time, teams who participate in the 3rd heat should expect to only be able to complete 1 challenge per state. Some of the activities can be brought home to complete.

    This meal ticket is for one person to enjoy our homemade chili lunch. Lunch includes veggies, fruit and a drink. Please purchase a lunch ticket for each individual who will be eating our chili lunch.

        You can purchase extra handbooks. Each team will get 1 handbook with their team registration. If you want more you can select what type of handbook you would like. The black and white will have a colored cover and black and white pages. The full color keepsake comes with colored pages and a laminated cover.
